Pipe Relining – saving you time!
When digging a pipe up and replacing it is not an option or it will create a huge mess, pipe relining will get the job done. Internal pipe repairs or ‘no dig’ methods are becoming increasingly popular amongst Australian plumbers, and for a good reason. Pipe relining is suitable where broken pipes are located under driveways, landscaped gardens or bathroom floor tiles. It enables the plumber to fix the pipe without the need to remove it and replace it.
Pipe Relining started in the UK with a leaky broken pipe and one man’s big idea how he would fix it. In the early 1970’s, Eric Wood was in a sticky situation; he had a pipe requiring repairs but it was under his concrete garage floor. With no desire to ruin his garage floor, he began experimenting with ways to fix the pipe while it remained under the ground. It was on this day pipe relining was born. Of course, it took him some time to develop his product for commercial purposes, but he persevered. Eventually all of his hard work paid off at the end of the 1970’s.
Over time, Eric’s original method has evolved into the technology we know today. Each pipe problem varies from the next so need to be assessed and repaired on an individual basis and likewise, each plumber is different. Plumbers use different types of resins and liners and it is in this way that pipe relining technology continues to improve as each technician adds their individual touch.
Pipe relining offers convenience and peace of mind. There is a 50-year design life on pipe relining products. Tree roots are unable to penetrate a relined section of pipe. This is a huge advantage over the traditional pipe replacement method as tree roots will almost certainly grow back in the pipes once again.
