Case Studies – Byron Bay
THE ISSUE
One of our fellow plumbers in charge of the Byron Shire Council’s building plumbing maintenance had a tenanted building that was experiencing recurring blockages in the trade waste line removing the café’s kitchen waste. Constant trade waste blockages were creating massive disruptions to the café owners business.
We were requested to camera the pipes and provide a report with recommendations for a permanent solution. Upon investigation it was found that the joints of the pipework had been dropping so there were lots of lips which allowed waste to become caught in the pipe and eventually build up.
HOW WE FIXED IT
We suggested relining a few sections of the pipe to improve the flow by sealing up the uneven joints in the pipe.
HOW IT HELPED OUR CLIENT
The relining process took one day as opposed several days it would take for a dig up solution. The works were scheduled to be carried out on one of the two days a year the building was closed. The business owners were extremely happy they didn’t lose any trade; it was business as usual the next day. The Council was pleased they did not need to dig anything up and all our work was carried out through existing inspection openings which meant no invasion or damage to the slab, walls or tiling.
THE ISSUE
We were contacted by another plumber who was cleaning a residential sewer line twice a year for their client in Wategos, Byron Bay. This was due to tree roots growing in and blocking the pipe up. This issue was also effecting the neighbour’s property as they had a combined sewer line.
Previously, a different plumber had looked at the property to offer a reline quote but had told the owner it would not be successful. We used our CCTV drain camera to assess the damage and found the pipe could be relined and found broken sections of the pipe where dirt and tree roots were getting in.
HOW WE FIXED IT
We were able to install a reline sleeve inside the broken section of the pipe in half a day.
HOW IT HELPED OUR CLIENT
The pipe that required repairs was under very deep concrete which was under a bathroom. It would have been a lot of work to cut up the slab, dig down to the pipe and pull the whole bathroom apart and then put it all back together. To add to the difficulty, the house was on the side of a hill.
By relining the pipe, there was minimal disruption to the owner and the neighbouring property. The job was completed just before Christmas and because the owners had visitors coming, they wouldn’t have been able to complete a renovation as quickly at an already stressful time. They were very happy with the outcome.
