Blocked Drains Brisbane
Many Brisbane home owners find they have a blocked drain at some point in time. It is particularly frustrating when you are unable to use the toilet or a bad smell makes its way into your backyard.
Sewerage pipes
There are many different symptoms of a blocked sewerage pipe including:
- A gurgling toilet
- A toilet that will no longer flush properly
- ORG (overflow relief gully) overflows (this is a drain with a grate on top, located outside your house)
- Slow draining sinks including in the kitchen, which may be due to grease and fat build up
- Bad odours coming up from your floor drain
Stormwater pipes
Stormwater pipes may also become blocked, particularly during the Brisbane storm season. For example during the major flood event of 2010, water rose to levels higher than usual and pipes became filled with silt after all of the water drained away. We were called in to clean a lot of these pipes out with our water jetter.
If you notice any of the below tell-tale signs, you may have a blocked storm water pipe:
- Downpipe is overflowing during periods of rainfall
- You may be able to physically see tree roots in the pipe
- Flooding around the house area in rain
This may be due to tree roots growing into a broken pipe, a foreign object such as a tennis ball becoming lodged, or leaves and silt which have simply built up over time.
How to clear a blocked drain
When clearing a blocked sewerage or storm water drain in Brisbane, your plumber should use a drain camera and high pressure water jetter so they are able to see what is causing the blockage and concentrate the cleaning in the right area. Once the blockage has been cleared, a drain camera should be reinserted to be sure the blockage is gone. Your Brisbane plumber can then make a recommendation on how to repair your sewer or stormwater pipe.
Trenchless sewer and stormwater repair, also known as pipe relining, may be a solution to your recurring blocked drain issues. This involves placing a new pipe inside the existing broken pipe without the need to dig up your landscaping or concrete driveway.
